Rado Starliner

A traditional looking watch with a futuristic name

Description:

1960s Era Rado Diastar Advertisement

The Rado Starliner epitomizes the watch industry of the 1960s, where the public was fascinated with all things having to do with space and the future and watchmakers did their best to capitalize on that fascination.

Rado was founded in 1917 and has a long history of watchmaking specializing in the use of high tech materials and methods of manufacture so their connection with the future is well founded. They were the first to use exotic materials such as tungsten in 1962 and synthetic diamond in 2004.

During the 1960s, Rado came out with a whole series of whimsically futuristic sounding watches with names such as:

  • Cosmo Travel
  • Diastar
  • Jupiter
  • Laser Beam
  • Lunastar
  • Marstron
  • NCC-101
  • Rising Star
  • Satellite
  • Silver Horse
  • Silver Moon
  • SpaceWing
  • Starliner
  • StratoJet
  • Voyager
