Fairchild LCD Digital
The poor man's digital Omega
Description:
This is a nice 6 function LCD digital watch from Fairchild Semiconductor. Unlinke many of the semiconductor companies, Fairchild produced watches with distinctive styling and very good quality construction for the money.
I like to think of this watch as a "poor man's Omega" because of the distinctive square Omega-like styling.
Tritium Powered Backlighting! |
This LCD watch was made in the late 1970s before the Three Mile Island disaster and proudly features a backlight powered by radioactive Tritium! Since Tritium only has a half-life of 12.3 years, the original Tritium has lost much of its luminosity, but you can still see a faint green glow from the display. It's not bright, but it's enough to read the display in the dark if your eyes are suitably dark adapted.
