Compuchron Sanyo
A CompuChron with a Pulsar style display
Description:
This Compuchron LED is a bit of a collector's watch because (a) it's uncommon and (b) unlike most non-luxury brands which use mostly Hughes modules, this one contains a module made by Sanyo which uses the same type of display that was used in some late model Pulsars.
Sanyo built many parts used in the Pulsar P4 modules and built the modules used in some late model Pulsar such as the rare and highly coveted Greenie. If you compare the shape and the slant of the digits in this Compuchron with the digits in the Pulsar Greenie, you can see that it's the essentially same display in different colors.
This watch has two setting buttons on the right side where one button advances the hours and month and the other button advances the minutes and date - just like the Pulsar Time Computer modules.
One other unique thing about this watch is that the module has been designed to be as thin as possible. If you look closely through the red crystal, you can see that below the display are two dark round circles - the battery compartments. The designers of this module chose to place the the display and circuitboard are placed alongside the batteries instead of stacking them on top of one another as they are in most other modules. This allows the module to be several millimeters thinner than other LED modules.
CompuChron watches were made in Japan and were generally of high build quality. They are one of the best of the non-luxury brands (Pulsar, Hamilton, Omega).
Condition:
Case: Very good.
The case is in very good but not mint condition. The sides are free from scratches and highly polished. There are a few tiny marks on the front of the case - a light scratch on the bottom of the bezel under the logo and a tiny nick near the right button. The case back is smooth and highly polished with a few light marks. Since it's highly polished, it looks worse in the photographs than it does in real life.
Face / Hands: Excellent.
All LED digits and segments are complete and bright.
Crystal: Very good.
The watch crystal has no chips or scratches but does have some faint marks that are visible if you catch a reflection off the crystal. The logo is crisp, unworn, and complete.
Band / Bracelet: Good.
The bracelet has only a few minor scratches. The gold electroplating has worn thin in various places on the bracelet and the clasp. This is visible in some bright lighting but is quite hard to see in normal indoor or incandescent light. It's significantly more visible in the photographs than in real life. The bracelet is complete and will fit a large 8.5' wrist.
Function / Accuracy: Excellent.
All functions work perfectly. Digital quartz accuracy.
