In the mid 2000s, it seemed as if organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays would soon transform the technology world. In 2007, Fossil jumped onto the OLED bandwagon with two beautiful and stylish watches with cutting edge multicolor OLED displays - the leather clad JR-4964 and the stainless steel JR-4965.

OLED displays were thought to be the holy grail of display technolgies since they combine the efficiency and super high contrast of LED displays with the multicolor capability of LCD displays. Organic LED displays are capable of red, green, and blue colors which makes a true color display possible. Because LED displays don't require a backlight, they only generate light where needed and can generate zero light for the dark pixels, yielding completely dark blacks and super high contrast.

As it turns out, OLED displays didn't take over the world as people thought. We still don't have OLED laptop displays, televisions, or wristwatches and the Fossil watches quickly disappeared into obscurity. However, they are still beautiful watches, if extremely rare.

The Fossil JR-4964 and JR-4965 have a number of nifty features that complement the display nicely. They feature a set of animated faces, an alphabetical date display, a time zone display with a world map and a super useful calendar display that shows each day in the month as an actual calendar.

Condition:

Case: Very good.
The case is in generally very good condition. Just a few light scratches on the case back and a few light wrinkles and cracks in the leather cladding.

Face / Hands: Excellent.
All LED digits and segments are complete.

Crystal: Excellent.
The mineral glass time screen is in perfect condition.

Band / Bracelet: Very good.
The leather band is in very good condition, showing a little light wear as shown in the photos. The band is quite wide and comfortable and will easily fit an 8.5" wrist.

Function / Accuracy: Excellent.
All functions work perfectly. Digital quartz accuracy.
