Pulsar P4 Dress (Gold-Filled)
A Pulsar intended for wearing with a suit
Description:
The Pulsar P4 dress model was designed to be small enough to fit easily under the cuff of a suit. While I'm sure it looks great with a suit, it looks great with just about anything including denim. Today, very large watches are in vogue and the relatively small size of the P4 dress may appear to some "macho" types as a bit effeminate. However, in the 1970s, the modest size of this model was a mark of sophistication and style.

The P4 Dress models were available in stainless, gold filled and solid 14KT gold by special order.
The P4 dress model uses the same module as the P4 ladies' model except that the LED digits are larger. The P4 dress model may be the most "wearable" of all Pulsar models due to its smaller size and weight, its comfortable bracelet and its large, bright digits.
This model also uses a synthetic sapphire time screen which was introduced in later versions of the Pulsar dress. The sapphire time screen is clear sapphire with a red gel filter sandwiched between the layers and is virtually scratchproof. You can tell that it's sapphire because if you look at it from the side, it appears white rather than red (see here).
The Pulsar P4 dress model was introduced in the spring of 1975 with a magnet set module. Later models used an autoset module which can be set by pressing the command buttons three times in quick succession rather than using the magnet. This example is a later model with a date stamp of 9/76 on the clasp and therefore uses the autoset module.

Case: Very good.
This Pulsar P4 dress model is in very good condition with only a few minor scratches visible on the case and case back. Since this model is one of the few with a highly polished case, any tiny scratches or imperfections are readilly visible. This model is "gold filled" using an 80 micron thick coating of 14kt gold which would make it possible to polish away any minor scratches that might occur.
Face / Hands: Excellent.
All LED digits and segments are complete and bright.
Crystal: Excellent.
The curved synthetic sapphire crystal is in perfect condition with no imperfections or delamination of the red filter layer, which sometimes occurs. The sapphire crystal lets in a bit more light than a standard mineral glass crystal and is quite beautiful.
Band / Bracelet: Excellent.
The gold filled mesh bracelet is minty - clean, shiny, and free from any kinks that sometimes occur with these somewhat delicate mesh bracelets. Since this watch has an autoset module rather than a magnet set module, there is no setting magnet or magnet holder contained in the clasp.
Function / Accuracy: Excellent.
All functions work perfectly. Digital quartz accuracy. Actually, since quartz crystals actually improve with age and the original Pulsar accuracy was a phenomenal 30 seconds per year, these vintage Pulsars usually keep time better than most modern quartz watches!
