Timex Mechanical

A mechanical with a futuristic UFO style case

Description:

This Timex mechanical is from near the end of Timex's period of mechanical watchmaking before they switched over to more inexpensive quartz technology in the 1970s. This watch is surprising because it features an old fashioned mechanical movement inside of a futuristic UFO shaped case. Timex built some remarkably elegant watches in the 1970s given their utilitarian reputation. In my opinion, this Timex has the grace of a Longines and the style of a Hamilton. The dial has an elegant light brown "sunburst" radial gradient similar to that found in the Timex "Dynabeat" line of electric watches. The dial is a spartan arrangement of lines and dots and the baton style hands feature skeletonized cut outs. Note that the date window is offset 45 degrees to the lower right centered between the vertical and horizontal crosshairs of the dial - a nice touch.

Condition:

Case: Good.
Overall, the case is in good to very good condition. As can be seen in the photos, there are numerous tiny nicks across the surface of the case and back, but they are not as noticeable as you'd guess, even given the highly reflective surface.

Face / Hands: Excellent.
The face and hands are in excellent condition with no discoloration or wear.

Crystal: Very good.
The crystal also has some wear and fine scratches but nothing major.

Band / Bracelet: Very good.
The stainless steel band is a replacement non-vintage band, but it matches the watch well and is in perfect condition.

Function / Accuracy: Excellent.
This watch sets, winds easily and runs perfectly. It lives up the the Timex slogan "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking".
